Books

Hi,

Let's say I've bought all seven books of the Harry Potter series.

What should I call them?

1) My copies of the series

2) My copy of the series

3) My books of the series

Thanks in advance

I would use #1. It sounds like a double plural, but 'series' is actually a singular noun.

Hi guys,

Of these 3 choices, I'd favour #2.

I think that native speakers would often use different wording to avoid any perceived awkwardness.

eg I have every book in the Harry Potter series.

eg I have the whole series of Harry Potter books.

eg I have every Harry Potter book.

Best wishes, Clive

I tested my brain and out came 'I have all the Harry Potter books'... which is a lie, since I don't have any of them.
