Book review “A ROSE FOR EMILY” BY WILLIAM FAULKNER
The story is about a woman Emily Gearson who belongs to a nobility family. Emily lived with her father in a small village and was very lonely since the father did not allow her to see men. After her father’s death, she was unable to let him go due to her fear of being left alone. During her mourning period, she did not show any grief claiming that her father was still alive. After the death of her father she was able to get involved with a man but they could not get married since he was not the marrying type as he was in love with other men. Emily used to give China painting lessons to children but after six years of the service people did not bring their children to her any more. She was hardly seen after her painting lessons except through the window sometimes since she couldn’t leave the house. She died at seventy four when curious villagers came to view her house. They found out that Emily had murdered her lover due to the fear she had of being abandoned by him. The people also found out that Emily slept next to Homer’s corpse. She had a similar experience earlier when she refused to dispose off her father’s body keeping it in the house until the authorities buried it due to the foul smell that was coming out of her house.
