Book

I'm sharing books with my friend and I'm telling her about the first book I've ever read. Should I say :

This is my first book ever. Or

This was my first book ever.

Which one should I use and why?

PreciousJones This is my first book ever. Or This was my first book ever. It doesn't matter.

  • PreciousJones This is my first book ever.
  • Or This was my first book ever.
  • It doesn't matter.
  • Both are possible.
  • Personally, I'd be inclined to use "was", focusing on the reading of the book as a "historic" event - an event that was "dead and gone".
