Yes, I know you buy tickets but you have to book/order/reserve the actual tickets before you buy them. Right?

Don't be mislead by the number. If your query is just "book ticket", you will get everything containing these two words. If you do a quoted search, you will see a different picture.

We book a hotel room, a show, a dinner table, a flight, a hall and so on, but logically not tickets even though many people do perceive that as normal English.

You're not actually booking a flight because it's impossible. Even if you're making reservations for a scheduled flight it's the actual seat you're reserving since the flight status is not based on the passengers but the flight itine
