Bongolese

Hi

Have you ever heard a word "bongolese"? Does it mean anything or maybe it is just some pun?

Some contex: Sometimes certain lines in his songs made sense, but then came whole sections that were just "Bongolese" as we came to call it.

Does this word mean anything? It seems to me it means nothing and that's why that guy was singing about nothing. That's how I see it Emotion: smile

The term itself is new to me and makes no sense (unless the singer was accompanying himself on bongo drums).

Hi

It's a pun of sorts. Your contextual quote reveals the origins of the term. Bongolese is a term coined by U2's lead singer Bono to describe the gibberish he voices in place of fully formed lyrics during the early stages of the band's songwriting process.

It's a great term! Made me laugh when I heard it anyway.

On e meaning of "Bongolese" is the language that Bono of U2 sings when he attempts to get a "verbal feeling" for a song the band are creating before writing lyrics to U2 songs. See "Desert of Our Love" at atU2.com for more info--they are my source for this information. atU2 rock!

Hi! Bongolese is a language that U2 singer Bono uses in songs. It´s when he sings words or thoughts, which just come on his mind and they don´t make sense. For example the song Desert of our love, or in the single version of No line on the horizon some changed lyrics

Hi...as I know Bongo is a noun/adjective and ubongo is a noun. Ubongo means brain in Swahili...But bongolese started from the word bongo...There is a city in Tanzania that is very expensive to live. People say in order to leave there you real need Ubongo. You need either to be a book smart or a street smart. So that city started to be called Bongo and the people who live in that town called them
