In British English, I suppose that you would call this a sledge
and this a bobsled.
If I wanted to say that we were sliding down a slope in bobsleds, would I say that we went sledging or sledding? I'm still talking about British English.
Thank you.
In my experience, BrE speakers commonly use the word "sledging" for any sort of recreational activity involving sliding down snow-covered slopes, such as is depicted in your picture. If you asked an average person what the difference was between "sledding" and "sledging", they might scratch their heads. My first impression of that comparison is that "sledding" seems a less common and more technical word.
