Blue

What color makes you sad or unhappy, everybody? Does blue do that? I'm wondering why the word "blue" can mean "sad or unhappy".

Top answer

I'm feeling blue. - This is not about the color making you do that but more about your mood being blue. When you're happy, you think of something bright and sunny - yellow, orange for me.

I have no idea, but it is strictly a cultural thing. There is a French song popular some 30 years ago, L'amour est bleu, and it is a happy song. When the song came into English, it became a sad song. "Blue, blue, my life is blue now I'm without you."
