blown

Hi,
I don't understand very well the meaning of the verb "blow" in this sentence: " Did that seem to create any sort of special interest over there? It was BLOWN way out of proportion, as you know, on this side of the Atlantic. But how was it in Europe, where I guess people are a little more used to various lifestyles and behaviors?".
could anyone help me?
