Bloody vs bloodied

A bloody/bloodied Mike ran after the thief.

Two questions:

1) Is the way the sentence is phrased with "A.....Mike" OK or bad writing?

2) When used to mean "has blood on himself", is there a difference between how common bloody and bloodied are in American English and British English?
