I think what is happening is that Danny has implied "it's not a scoop, no big deal" when he says "just another day in Metropolis," but Clark's response is "well, this might not be a big deal to you, but no matter how small or large the city, the police force has a duty to defend its honor and seek justice when there is 'blood on a badge.'"
