black patches/spots/speckles

The poison arrow frogs can be green or blue with black patches.

Hi,
Does "patches" in the above equal "spots" and "speckes?" They are close to one another, in my opinion. Thanks.

Patches are a relatively large area, irregular, but roughly rectangular in shape. Spots are more round in shape. They can be large or small.
