Black-and-white

Hi,

I came across this strange sentence:

The cop is talking on the phone:

"Send two black-and-whites and
a night detective to 1039 South Union."

What does BLACK-AND-WHITES mean?

Maybe FBI?

Thanks in advance.

It may mean police patrol cars. I think they are black and white in certain states/countries. Cheers

Would a 'night detective' be the brand of nocturnal binoculars?

Not that I know anything about using binoculars at night, I hasten to add.

I don't know about the binoculars, but black-and-whites are definitely police cars.

I presume that they are sending two squad cars but only one 'night detective' because there are already two police officers in each patrol car. The night detective would be a higher-ranking officer, I think.

And his bins would be infrared.

Ah! They were called 'panda cars' in the UK, in the 60s and 70s.

So it would be the police cars?

If so, it's good.
