Bivouac

The migrants (honeybees) travel only 30 meters or so before coalescing into a beardlike cluster, where they literally hang out together for several hours or a few days. Once bivouacked, the swarm will field serveral hundred house hunters to explore some 70 square kilometers of the surrounding landscape for potential homesites, locate a dozen or more possibilities...

In this text, I don't quite understand the structure of the unerlined part-Once bivouacked. Can this be paraphrased into like Once they are bivouacked(once being bivouacked)? Does this mean once they decide to stay there for a while?
