As far as I know, it is a euphemism for "kiss my ____ (rear end)". It isn't a very nice thing to say.

Thanks guys, By the way, I searched on the net and some where it was saying that "bite me" is slang usually used in NY and means "get lost". any ideas?

It depends how you define improper. Don't say it to your boss, your teacher, your grandmother, or anyone who may hit you harder than you wish to be hit.

Actually, I could probably say it to my boss, because we laugh and joke a lot, but I would not, because I don't find it proper in a work setting at all.
