Bird house

Hi,

Need your help to get ready talking about the spring season with my kids :-)

Which of the following word combinations are ok?

(1) "to build a bird-house"

(2) "there are a half dozen starling bird-houses at my dacha"

(3) "this kind of a bird house is not good for sparrows or tomtits"

Can I reduce "starling bird house" to just "starling house"?

Perhaps there are some other words that one can use for "bird-house"?

thanks!

It is great that you talk to your kids about things like this. As far as I know (when it comes to birds, I don't know very much), the word "birdhouse" is a single word, but it's the right word. You may be able to say "starling house" but I think I would use "starling birdhouse" myself.

Thank you, Grammar Geek! :-)

We all LONG for the spring ...but alas the weather in town is still much colder than that we are used to have at this time of the year... Still down to -15 deg Celsius during night hours... .
