Bird...

Chloe finds Tess who has broken into Clark's house.
Tess: What's with all the broken glass? Is everything OK?
Chloe: Everything except for the bird that flew into the window.
Tess: Bird? All that brainpower, and
that's what you come up with.
Chloe: It was a large bird. In fact, Lois and Clark are out
buying a new pane as we speak.
Does Chloe imply that Tess is the bird that broke in or she just
lies to her that to cover for Clark and Lois?

This doesn't seem the right way round to me. It reads as though Chloe is the one who has broken in (and is making up an excuse for the broken window). Are you sure Tess is the one who shouldn't be there?

Yes. Chloe was just visitting when she found her there. And Clark and Lois were trapped in some
sort of device the carried them out through the window.
