MOTIVATION LETTER

I have pursued post graduation in Biotechnology from Osmania University in city, Hyderabad. During my studies, I was always a curious and research active student because I knew that to pursue a scientific career, one most begin early. I got tremendous opportunities in various Biotechnology companies. I have been recognized by many people and lauded for my Biotechnology knowledge. Moreover, I enjoy intellectual interactions with PhD scholars, having many friends, and am trained to solve problems. Consistently, my peers have placed me in a leadership position, and I have reputation for doing works very well beyond what is expected. Still I feel a vacuum (seems out of place or is it just me?). To my knowledge, I have made the correct decision in not taking a job right now, because I know that I have no choice if I am to pursue my long term goal and my childhood dream: to teach and publish research. By pursuing a doctoral degree, I will have the priceless opportunity to realize my dream.

Learning gives me a sense of accomplishment and a world of satisfaction. The more I learn, the more fulfilled I feel. I do not learn solely to apply my knowledge in a practical setting; instead it is the quest for knowledge and challenge of learning that motivates me. After 5 years of exploration in this magnetic biological world, I am convinced that I have made the right choice: I am more than eager to step into the coming, post-genomic" era to decode life in three dimensions at the atomic and molecular level.

Perhaps most importantly, joining in companies will have less contribution in line with my long-term career objective of teaching, conducting research, and producing research publications that would add value and contribute to my field of specialization. I am driven more by my dreams rather than money and the prestige of an excellent career. I also hope to contribute to society; as a professor by disseminating my knowledge. An inspired teacher can bring out talents, encourage innovation, and nurture a new generation of scientists and philosophers. I always want to inspire others in the teaching process in addition to conveying knowledge of the curriculum.

Excited by the idea of becoming a scientist since I was a child, my interests in pursuing graduate studies intensified during my undergraduate education and my basic research. Having a thirst for Biology, I pursued my graduation in Biotechnology in prestigious S.M.D. College, affiliated to Sri Venkateshwara University. With Biotechnology background, I excelled in my graduate studies and stood as top scorer. The core subject in my post graduation became very interesting in the hands of experienced faculties, and I am a 3-time winner of No.1 position for the past four semesters. These years of education have been an enriching experience and I am determined to maintain the high levels of excellence throughout my career. A research career in bacterial genetics is my thirst. Being in the campus hostel, I dedicated my extra time (during holidays) in the department laboratories and in CPMB (Centre for Plant Molecular Biology) to improve my experimental skills. In my junior year, I was selected by Professor K.Prabhakar Rao to work in his project along with PhD scholars. I mastered several biochemical and molecular biology techniques: DNA isolation and purification from plant and E.coli, protein separation and purification, PCR amplification, southern blot and chromatography. This experience inculcated me to be a responsible person and eventually boosted my confidence. It also taught me that the basis for good work is self reliance and very importantly the time management. My work involved organizing various events, which gave me the opportunity to work and interact with various kinds of people. This was a distinctively gratifying experience from me, which I feel would stand in good stead in the future, especially in lieu of my research experience.

The core subject Biotechnology inspired me a lot and involved myself in many self-help initiatives such as paper and poster presentations in various state level seminars. Besides this, I have even participated and attended various national level symposiums. Realizing the greater importance of Bioprocess work in Biotech industries, as a partial fulfillment of my post graduation, I worked on Xylitol production and its optimization, at Indian Institute of Chemical Technology (IICT), a national research institute. I was lucky to get a chance of doing some of my Molecular biology and Medical biotechnology practical’s in CCMB (Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology). Some of the credits in my theory part have also been dealt by CCMB scientists. CCMB is one among the many great research institutes recognized by UNESCO for its excellence in the field of Molecular biology research. With their guidance, I have become expert at cloning, protein expression, and at crystallographic work. I feel well prepared for the further challenging studies and research on very different topics, as well as on the topics I am familiar with.

To fulfill my aspirations, I deem it necessary to seek a PhD degree from the Department of Medical Microbiology at the University of Antwerp. I believe that your education will broaden my knowledge horizon, expose me to distinguished professors and their original concepts and creative teaching. I will also learn advanced theories in your research and sophisticated experimental skills. Thus I believe that my serious intention for study, my research experience in laboratories and academic background in various areas of Biotechnology, will be more beneficial for my research work in your reputed university.
