00[01a01b01u01font00Henry02font00]: Let me ask you something, Alexa. If you made a promise to a girl's dad that you would not see her anymore... would you consider that like 01b00a binding promise02b00? 02br
00[01b01u01font00Alexa02font00]: Absolutely. 02br
00[01b01u01font00Henry02font00]: Yeah? 02br
00[01b01u01font00Alexa02font00]: But then again, there are always ways around such things. 02br
00[01b01u01font00Henry02font00]: Like? 02br
00[01b01u01font00Alexa02font00]: For example. If I promised a woman's father I would not see her... I would simply shut my eyes, while she serviced my manhood. 02br
00[01b00Jocko the walrus02b00, slaps his face] 02br
00[01b01u01font00Henry02font00]: That's actually a cool way to look at it. And a very gross way. 02br
00[01b00Alexa's smile drops02b00] 02br

00Hi, I saw the movie a few days ago, and I liked the ways the characters were talking, simply very funny.02br
02br
00I think the main man character's name is 'Adam something...', well, anyway...02br
02br
00I've got three questions here.02br
02br
001) 01b00a binding promise02b00 ... -- according to a dictionary it's got the following meaing: binding (v) to fasten ....02br
02br
00So I guess the meaning of the 'binding promise' is a promise that must be kept.02br
02br
002) Jocko the walrus -- well, I have no clue on this one...02br
02br
003) Alex's smile drops -- Does this mean, he stops smiling because he could believe that Henry took his jokes so seriously? I think there is an expression for this, I mean in Alex's point of view... in the meanig of 'non-sense'...like the situation here, you say something for fun but the other person takes it so seriously ...do you know what I mean? anyway...02br
02br
02br
02br
00If you can't answer all three questions, it's OK.02br
02br
00Thanks in advance. 02br
02br
00Have a lovely day ~02br

00 "A binding promise" -- a promise the keeping whereof is troublesome, hence "binding". The pro- mise binds you hand and foot and li- mits your freedom.02pre

0In the context you described, I think 00 00“binding promise ‘was used as a satire. 00In leagl terms, "binding" means subject to law but only in writting. Verbal agreement can be leaglly binding but it's circumstantial.02br
00I heard of "binding agreement" which is private in nature and can be a legal document once signed and approved by parties involved. 02br

00Hello, Goodman! ...Then how would you re-phrase the opening pharase of the dialog? (not using the term "binding promise") I'd do it thus: "If you promised your girl's father to never see his daughter, would it create trouble for you?" What's your version? Anton02pre

0In this movie, there was an actual walrus. I don't remember this particular scene, but the walrus kissed him on at least one occasion, so it seems the walrus just slapped him with one of his flippers. Or whatever you call them. 0-
