Cyclists and car drivers sharing the same roads causes some problems. What are the problems and what can be done to reduce them?

It is true that when bike riders and car users use the same road, it would commonly occur accidents. While this is a serious issue, this essay is going to propose measures to reduce them.

The main problem that might happen on the road used by both bicyclists and motorists is accidents. This is due to the difference in size between bicycles and cars. Therefore, when accidents happen, such as car crashes, this often results in grave injuries to bikers since they are basically vulnerable even with protective gear. Such accidents can be attributed to a variety of reasons, including distracted driving, which has been the leading cause of many accidents for a few past decades. For example, drivers frequently eat while driving, making them unable to focus on the forward and cause road casualties for people nearby.

Since this issue is serious, the government should take steps to reduce road accidents and save lives. The first solution is that the governments could allocate state budget to transport infrastructure. To be more specific, they can invest in special cycle lanes that separate bicycle users from other vehicles on busy roads. Secondly, the governments could deter distracted driving by imposing more harsh penalties, such as fine with a certain amount of money, on who do multi-tasking while driving. Australia, for example, has imposed a law that snacking while driving can be charged hundreds of dollars. This law, in fact, has reduced the accident rate caused by cars and bikes in Australia.

In conclusion, problems such as accidents can be stem from the scenario when car drivers and bicyclists share the same road. As a consequence, appropriate steps need to be taken to tackle this problem.
