Big

Hi teachers,

To relate "big" to "growth" to describe a child. Would the following sentences expressed correctly?

1. He's growing up so big / fast.

2. He's been growing up so big / fast.

Thanks

Hi Tinanam, To me, "growing up" has a connotation of gaining height - of getting taller. Similarly, "growing big" carries a connotation of putting on weight - of getting larger. " As it is, sentence two is stilted.

  • "He's been growing big very fast" or "He has grown very big very fast" feel much better and accurately reflect that the child has grown larger rather than taller.

If you agree with what I say about height, then sentence one should read: "He's growing up so fast" or "He's growing up fast."

As it is, sentence two is stilted. "He's been growing big

Hi CalifJim,

Thanks for your help.

He's growing so fast.

He's been growing so fast.

Can you please show me the different between the two tenses? How in a situation you would use them?

Thank you so much.
