Beyond this/stillroom

Hi

In a book about magic the author writes:

The garage is the car's domain. It guards and protects it as much as the home does us. Beyond this, it can become one of the most magical rooms of the house - a temple room, an occult workshop or a magical stillroom.

Does "beyond this" mean "apart from this"?

I think a stillroom is a room where you can be on your own and spend some time in quiet. However I know it can have something to do with alcohol as well.
