Beyond

The road continues beyond the village up into the hills. Does it mean the road ends at the beginning of the village and continues from the end of the village? I mean there is no road in the village, right? Please help me out.

Top answer

No, it means that there is a road in the village that does not end at the end of the village, but continues on into the hills. Unless there were additional information to suggest otherwise, I would assume that the road goes to the village, then through the village, then out the other side of the village.

I am trying to get the meaning of 'beyond: in this sentence. To me, it sounds like someone is asking about the road and someone is telling about the road with this sentence above. The sentence could mean the road continues from the end(opposite side from the people talking) of this village towards the hills. I think so. Someone would like to help me?

Yes. Most likely, the road goes from where they are now to the hills, passing through the village on the way.

The road (wherever it is) keeps on going. It goes farther than the village, that is, past the village, and keeps going up into the hills.

Nothing is said about whether there is a road in the village, but I would assume so. I would assume that the road goes to the village, then through t
