Beware the ides of March, the revenge of the moderators!

One would hope that this English forum is a democratic community, but apparently it seems to be ruled by people called moderators, (its hard to find out exactly who the administrators are) who have absolute authority. They can remove posts on a whim or in a fit of pique and without due cause or discussion.

This editing out of posts puts a bad reflection on the author of a certain post and can in fact alter the whole tone of the discussion in favour of another author. In my case a moderator who considered his point of view more valuable than mine.

In an educational environment mistakes are valuable teaching tools. Teachers make mistakes too and should not be above admitting their failings. To dismiss or eradicate helpful informative posts by pulling rank is detrimental to all.

It is a shame that this is allowed in a forum hit upon by thousands. Open honest discussion is what wins the day not despotism.

Hi Tallulah,

As a mod, I do the following:

1. clean up the formatting if the post contains gibberish characters (as often happens when it's pasted from MS Word)

2. eliminate e-mails from posts (to prevent users from getting spammed)

3. eliminate abusive message and language, if any.

Other than these reasons, I normally leave posts alone.

Hope

Well I've been a moderator and I've been a victim, so its easy to see both sides. This seems to be getting sorted out in a nice polite fashion. This in it's self is rare for most forums. Well done!

Except for Mr.Anon's dumb remarks of course. Nothing is better than nonsense son. Isn't it past your bedtime?????

Hello Tallulah

When a moderator removes a post, an explanation is sent to the poster. Did you not receive an email?
