“Between” vs “Among”

I believe that ‘between’ – not ‘among’ – is the best pick in the following sentences. Do you concur?

The fight was between Mike, Steve and Joe.

The war was between China, France and Belgium.

Divide the candy between Jessica, Frank and Cory.

Between sounds more natural to me.

Besides, it’s an oversimplification to say that between can be used only with two entities and that among must be used with three or more. I have yet to encounter an infallible rule for the use of these words, so I just go with whichever so
