Best interpretation (II) ?

Hi guys,

I don't understand the structure of the sentence and don't know how to interpret the part underlined.
Would you take a look at it and help me with some comments?

Thanks~

hi again,

I still have a question for the last part, which begins with "as were days~."
Why is it inverted?
Does that mean "like days were spent in the garden" or "like days spent in the garden were common activities"?
Which one is more probable understanding do you think?
Or is there any other interpretation?

Any idea would be welcomed and I appreciate it.
