Hi teachers,

Thanks

Hi GPY,

Do you mean my answer would be 'I like Dawn, Sam and Jean best.'?
I thought with the usage of 'best' there was only one among the choices.
Thanks

"best" can refer to several things where necessary.

Hi GPY,

Thanks for explaining the usage. It's just that the dictionary doesn't not specify the usage very clearly. Are the following sentences correct and natural?
1. What's your favorite fruit? I like blueberries and apples best.
2. Of all the people I like Tom and Amy the best.
3. What I like best was going to the beach and going shopping.
Thanks

In terms of use of "best", yes. (2) would benefit from a comma after "people". (3) has a tense mismatch betwen "like" and "was".

Hi GPY,

Thanks for the answers.

1. What's other alternatives you could provide me without using 'like best'?
2. Is 'was' right or 'were'? I had two activities going on. 'What I liked best was / were going....and going....'

1. E.g.:
My favourite activities are/were going to the beach and going shopping.
More than anything else, I like/liked going to the beach and going shopping.

2. "was" is more natural.
