Bernard Levin

I heard on the BBC PM programme that Bernard Levin has died after a long period during which he suffered from Alzheimer's. Of all the columnists at The Times he was my favourite, and his facility with, and love of, the English language was commented on by Simon Jenkins, who was the editor of the newspaper for one year during the time that Levin was writing.

That's sad. I always enjoyed his writing. He was one of the great English stylists and a courageous man of principle too.
