bemused tolerance

hi, Here is an excerpt from a text about two women talking about their experiences in a male-dominated profession: "We shared our stories of blatant discrimination or bemused tolerance." Does "bemused tolerance" mean "we don't know why, but we are tolerant about being discriminated", or "we have no choice but to be tolerant"?

Thks!

I think the 'blatant discrimination' is shown by the men towards the women so the 'bemused tolerance' is also shown by the men towards the women so it is your idea of 'we don't know why but we are tolerant'. The men show tolerance towards the women but aren't really convinced, maybe rather condescending or it's something we have to do these days.

Some of the men that the two women observed discriminated against women very blatantly; other men tolerated the presence of women but found it amusing. The first group were openly angry that women were working in a profession occupied mostly by men; the second group were not angry but found the presence of women so unusual as to be somewhat comical, possibly thinking themselves superior to
