"Below we discuss"

Hi smart people,

After editing a text I've found that the ending of one section - which concludes with a sentence leading into the next section - may not make much sense anymore, but I'm loathe to change too much so I'm wondering if it's passable.

As the topic the final sentence introduces is now on the next page, it seems to me the phrase "below we discuss" might be incorrect. Would it be better to change it to "on the next page we discuss", or "in the following section"? A friend of mine who is usually quite good with this kind of thing seems to think that "below we discuss" doesn't have to literally refer to the subject matter being "below", and is just a catchall for "what comes next".

Help much appreciated!

That's right. Anonymous Would it be better to change it to "on the next page we discuss" No, because in another edition or version it might not be.

  • Anonymous "in the following section" If it is a new, labelled or numbered section, then that is the best choice.

Exceptionally helpful, my thanks to everyone who responded. I think I'll leave it as it is then, if it's not technically incorrect!
