Hi there,
I am a bit confused with how I should pronounce the adjective "beloved"...
(1) All the Eng grammar books (paperbacks) I have claim the adjective "beloved" is pronounced as <... ved> ( 'e' stands for the schwa here). But...
(2) The online webster (available through the OneLook interface ) offers both <...vd> and <...ved> for this adjective. Moreover, the version <...vd> precedes the well-established <...ved>, which I guess just means the pattern <....vd> has become common and is even used more frequently than <....ved> (in AmEng)?
Could somebody please comment on this "pronunciation shift"(?)
