Vocabulary

belonging

I have found this sentence which does not sound right but I don't know how to correct it:

'Since 1996 I belong to a swimming club'

How about
'I have joined a swimming club since 1996'
BTW, Does swimming regularly at a swimming pool mean being member of a swimming club?

Thank you

Does it mean that a team is a swimming club?
Not necessarily. A club usually means a social organization. The people do it for enjoyment, not competition.

What would you call a person who goes swimming at the local swimming pool/sports centre and pays monthly fees?
A member of the sports center.
