Belly of the ...

Hi

Can anyone try and explain one sentence to me:

The pronator muscles are located so that they can pull the radius toward the center of the body, and the supinator muscles are situated to pull the radius away from the body. Interestingly, most of the muscles that control wrist, hand, and finger movements are located at or near the elbow. This results in the belly of the muscle lying near the elbow with tendons crossing the wrist and attaching to the wrist, hand and finger bones.

--- I'm not sure I understand the last sentence? What tendons are crossing the wrist?

I think the point is to distinguish between the muscle itself and the attached tendons. I expect "the belly of the muscle" refers to the body of the muscle - the part that would be good to eat if we were canibals. We're talking about several muscles (plural) and several tendons.

  • The edible part of the system is closer to the elbow, and the tendons are close to the wrist.
  • My son recently severed the tendon to his little finger at the knuckle.
