Hello,
I just learned the word "bellow"(thank you 4444mv) and came up with a few sentences. I would like to know if I understand the word correctly.

As he was coming closer, he heard bellowing cries coming from inside the cave.
"Don't you dare leave me!",  she bellowed enraged.
The crowds gathered around the procession bellowing hateful words at the young girl blamed to be a witch.
The proud father couldn't hold his emotions any longer and bellowed in happiness.

In first sentence "As he was coming closer, he heard bellowing cries coming from inside the cave." the word bellowing is appearing as adjective which is ambiguous. Bellowing is either verb or a noun, not adjective. it doesn't make sense combining it with word "cries".

Maybe it's just me, but I don't associate bellowing with happiness.

If I hear someone bellowing, I don't immediately think that they're happy.

AgaristaWhen I read I don't tend to look up all words. I used to do it but quickly realized that the best way not to finish a book is to check the meaning of every single word.
