Being taken over
I was really interested to hear that the team on J6, the Adult Cystic Fibrosis (CF) Unit, are working with patients so that they can act as second checkers for their medications. These are ‘expert patients’ who normally prepare their own meds at home so coming into hospital and this role being taken over by the nursing team can sometimes make them feel disempowered. This new way of working can help patients feel more in control of their own care and limit the isolation they feel while nurses spend a lot of time off the wards prepping medication.
Well done to the CF and Pharmacy teams who have made a real difference to the experience of these patients, as well as improving how we best use the time and expertise of our staff.
