being or getting

X and Y are verbs, since I heard this in a movie, and it is inappropriate, I've replaced it with letters. Which word is best? What is the difference between having X at the end and Y at the end?

He likes being/getting X while being/getting Y.
He likes being/getting Y while being/getting X.

It has to do only with the specifics: which item is being focussed upon (the main clause) and which item is not (the subordinate clause). And no, we do not wish to be given the specifics of this case.

No, no. 'Be' is the condition and 'get' is attaining the condition.
