"Being" + able to

Hi,

I recently read a sentence which I below mentioned.

"During the past year, many employees have gotten used to "being" able to pick up their kids from school or take an aging parent to medical appointments"

I would like to know what type of sentence is the above one and why we used "Being" in this sentence. How we construct these type of sentences? What if we construct this sentence like below one. Could you see any gramatical error.

"During the past year, many employees have gotten used to pick up their kids from school or take an aging parent to medical appointments"

Thank you.
