Being

Being his usual energetic self, Ranveer shook a leg at the promotional event and also met up with his fans.I read this interview on Rediff.com.What part of speech does " being" belong to? And what does it modify in the sentence? I read about reduced adverbial but this phrase does not fall into that.

Is it a gerund acting as an adjective modifying Ranveer or an adverb modifying shook the verb?

It's definitely not a gerund. I'd call it a participle clause (a non-finite construction) whose implicit subject is Ranveer, so it's not really adjectival or adverbial. It's more like a second predicate. (Ranveer was his usual energetic self.
