before vs until

Hello, everyone!

As you know, the difference between before and untill is one of most confusing things for English learners. Because It changes according to the context, it is not easy to understand them fully despiting studying good threads related in this forum. Could you take a look at the sentences below?

1. Add the water before adding the acid.
2. Add the water until adding the acid.

Does #1 imply we should put the water once (or at most just a few times) before adding the acid? Or Doesn't #1 have a reference to times of the action?

Does #2 imply we should put the water continuously regardless of whatever times before or up to adding the acid?
