Grammar

before/ by the time

(a)Call me before you get to the airport.
(b)Call me by the time you get to the airport.

I think there is no problem with (a), but I'm not sure about (b). What do you think? Does the sentence sound natural to native speakers? Plus, what would a native speaker say in a situation like this?

Top answer

(a) is OK. (b) does not sound natural to me. If you're looking for other ways to say it (or something similar), I guess "Call me when you're on the way to the airport" is one.
