Been in and been to

Hello!
Are both of these sentences correct?

- I have been to Nepal.
- I have been in Nepal.

I know the first one is correct, but I'm not so sure about the second one. It's sounds "right" to me!

Thank you

Both are OK. The first slightly stresses the travelling for me. ('To' is a preposition of movement, while 'in' is a preposition of location.)

There isn't in 'been' per se, but idiomatically, 'be ' means 'go':

Be: (4) To go or come: Have you ever been to Italy? Have you been home recently?
