So, it's basically the same as the difference between "to be" and "to go".

Oh right - you mean, as in, the difference between "She's been to France" and "She's gone to France"? Sorry - that didn't click straight away.

Well, in this context, "been" implies she's been there, and come back again afterward. "Gone" could imply that she's still there.

Slightly off the original question, but did you know that we use 'been and gone' as a phrase in the UK? It means something came along and then left and it's usually used in reply to a question when we want to tell someone that they have missed something/one. Informal use only. And be careful as it can sound impolite if said the wrong way - it is usually accompanied by a sort of wry half-sympatheti
