Hi! Just wondering why we need "been" for number 3 and 5. Thanks, Fulvio

1.The letter was sent. Passive Form

2. We sent the letter. Active Voice Form

3. The letter has been sent. Present Perfect Form

4. The dog has died. Present Perfect Form

5. The dog has been dead for 20 minutes. Present Perfect Form

Hello yellowstarstruck,

A. In #2, you can't say "The letter has sent.". It's wrong. So it must be in the passive form, and you should include "been" in your sentence.

B. Because in #5 we have an adjective, which is "dead", in the sentence. So the word "been" is mandatory. If you leave it out, your sentence will be wrong.
