Is a honeycomb still a honeycomb when the bees are inside?

I suppose it could be useful to have different words for a hive with and without bees though - I'd know not to go near one 'with'.

What's an apiary, BTW?

It's a place for 'farming' bees, the place where beehives are kept. An apiary might have any number of beehives.

Hive is also fine (it's just short for beehive) but it doesn't say anything about whether there are bees inside or not.
