Grammar

becomes/is becoming

Hello,
I would like to know which sentence is correct...:

1.Our environment becomes more and more polluted every year.
2. Our environment is becoming more and more polluted every year.

I think this sentence is quite tricky - on the one hand we have a change (present continuous), on the other hand we have 'every year' (present simple)... I would say the second one is correct but I am not sure..

Could you help, please?
Thank you!

Hi, Use the simple present. It is used to indicate the rate at which something happens. Our environment becomes more and more polluted every year / each year / year by year / as the years go by.

I don't see a great deal of difference between those two. Both are possible.
