Can I say,

When the frying pan becomes hot, she adds some vegetable oil in / into the frying pan.

Hi Yoong. I'd agree only if this involves multiple operations with multiple recepticals, where various ingredients are waiting in mixing bowls etc. for the next stage. Otherwise, where else would you add the vegetable oil?

I agree that if the step is talking about a frying pan, then the frying pan is obviously where you would add oil. If the oil were to be added to another container entirely, it doesn't belong in that step.

Me too. I meant to add, if you are going to describe the "adding," a different verb would be used, in my experience. Pour half a cup of vegetable oil into the heated pan.
