Become Or Be

Hello everyone,

Could you please tell me if both "become" and "be" are correct in the following sentence?

Eg. Let him do whatever he wants. He might become/be a better person than us in the future.

Context: A person is talking about a friend because the friend does something which is not socially acceptable. Then, you are replying to the the person by saying the above the sentence.

P.S. "He" refers to "friend".

I think "become" is natural.

Regards,

Joseph
