Because she did not have enough open space in her...

Hi

Could you please tell me if these lines read naturally? Any other suggestions are welcome.

Because he did not have enough open space in his small apartment, his washing would not get the sun. The clothes he wore to the office often smelled fusty.

Thanks,

Tom

I would naturally say "smelled musty" rather than "smelled fusty". content=smelled+musty%2C+smelled+fusty&year_start=1800&year_end=2000&corpus=15&smoothing=3 I don't see that lack of "open space" in an apartment necessarily equates to no sun. Something like "Because his apartment was so small, his washing did not air properly" may make more sense.
