Because of

Hi,

Can I use all of the expressions in bold here?
What is the difference between them?

Because of/owing to/due to/thanks to the pressure of schoolwork, he didn't have enough time to practice the drums.

Thank you very much.

Hi MM,

Thanks for your reply.

Do you mean 'thanks to' is only used with good conditions?

Is it true that 'owing to' and 'due to' are usually used in formal situations but 'because of' in informal ones, and is that their difference?

Thanks.

Do you mean 'thanks to' is only used with good conditions?-- It seems to be that it is used for bad conditions only jocularly.

Is it true that 'owing to' and 'due to' are usually used in formal situations but 'because of' in informal ones, and is that their difference?-- I don't think so; if anything, it is reversed. I consider 'because of' the best all-round choice.

Hi MM

Thanks very much for your reply. I don't quite understand what you meant by the quote. Do you mean 'owing to' and 'due to' can be used in informal conditions, too?

Thanks.

Yes. They are perhaps less formal than 'because of'.
