Because and for in a complex sentence

Hildegarde told her little cousin to behave herself because her mother would scold her for she did not take good care of her little cousin girl.

I have a studen who is in a frenzy to churn out quirky sentence like the above. I truly don't encourage the complexity of language before one can master.

Althouigh i think the sentence isnt wrong, i prefer the following edition of the sentence.

Hildegarde told her little cousin to behave herself because her mother would scold HIldegarde for not taking care of her little cousin.

"for she did not take good care" in the first sentence is not right (except in a strained literary sense of "for" that I very much doubt was intended). "for not taking care" in your version is grammatically correct, but doesn't seem to be the best choice to fit the sentence as a whole. "

"for not taking care" in your version is grammatically correct, but doesn't seem to be the best choice to fit the sentence as a whole. Assuming (for the sake of addressing the question asked) that we want to keep the rest of the sentence
