The sentence is grammatically correct, but it would have to be used in the context of at least one other sentence to sound natural. What I mean is you would not just walk up to someone and say, "Because the only time I've been in California was when you were there." Something would have had to proceed it or something needs to follow it, e.g.,
Because the only time I've been in California w
